Not the people who won a lottery prize, but the organisations and individuals in Bristol that received grants from The Lottery Fund.

Based on my analysis using publicly available data, Bristol residents are estimated to spend around £54 million a year on the National Lottery, generating roughly £12 million for good causes. Yet Bristol based projects have received more than £667 million in Lottery funding since the Lottery began—an average of more than £21 million a year.

This means that Bristol is a winner when it comes to getting our "fair share" of grants from the National Lottery.

But Grants could be spent outside the Ward of the Recipient Organisation, or even outside of Bristol.

Sustrans

Between Jan 1995 and Sep 2025, Sustrans received £130M in grants from the National Lottery. Sustrans is based in Bristol, but most of the grants it receives are spent across the UK.

Bristol

So far in 2026 (Jan to Sep) Bristol organisations and individuals have received £26M in grants from the National Lottery.

Black South West Network - £5,000,000

The Solidarity Fund

Black South West Network (BSWN) has received £5 million over 10 years. Sado Jirde, CEO of BSWN, said: “BSWN has a long track record of supporting community-led change across the South West, and we know that tackling racial inequality requires sustained, long term investment. This funding is significant – not only for BSWN, but for the communities and organisations we work alongside.
“Support from The National Lottery Community Fund through The Solidarity Fund demonstrates a commitment to addressing inequality and backing community led solutions. We are committed to making the most of this opportunity, and to being accountable, not just to The National Lottery Community Fund, but to the communities whose futures this work is in service of.”
