Carry On Auditing

Todays WECA Audit Committee left me speechless. It was very short, because not enough committee members had turned up to make it quorate.

There were some eloquent contributions from the public in the Public Forum (no follow up questions allowed). Watch Public Forum.

Andrew Lynch (member of the public) commiserated with the committee members and members of the public.

The rest of the meeting was taken up with members talking about how unhappy they were. I would summarise their contributions as describing the committee as being toothless, ignored and ineffective.

"Was there any debate on our views?"

The meeting had to end at that point because the meeting was not quorate and would not be able to vote on anything.

Perhaps they could have spent the time discussing the contributions made in public forum. But they aren't allowed to do that.

I looked up the attendance data for the Audit Committee and found that....

So we don't know how many committee members do (or don't) turn up on a regular basis.

I would describe it as a farce, and more like a "Carry On" film, rather than a serious committee.

But I suspect Sid James and Hattie Jacques would have done a better job.
