It can be difficult to visualise the large amounts of money spent by Bristol City Council, so I have calculated how many days of spending one million pounds would cover for specific items.

For example, in 2025 BCC spent £36,497,535 on Pension Contributions.

£36,497,535 / 365 = £99,993 (this is how much was spent per day in 2025)

£1,000,000 / £99,993 = 10 (This is the number of days that £1 Million would cover).

This is how I calculated that £1 Million paid for 10 Days Pension at Bristol City Council in 2025.

In 2022, £1M paid for 12.8 days of Pension Contributions.

BCC expect to make £7.2M on Pension Contributions in 2026/2027.

Private Finance Initiative (PFI) payments in 2025

£1 Million paid for 16.1 Days PFI at Bristol City Council in 2025

Bristol City Council is currently committed to PFI payments until 2037. The most recent PFI deal was for Hengrove Leisure Centre which was signed in 2010 and runs until 2037.

Agency Staff payments

BCC get income from Agency Staff recruitment where they charge for the admin work they do to recruit agency staff. This income will increase, but only if they keep recruiting agency staff.
