What does Tony Dyer do all day?
At the beginning of 2025 Bristol City Council started publishing the diary of the Council Leader and the diary of the Lord Mayor to improve transparency and highlight the work done by the Council Leader (currently Cllr Tony Dyer) and the Lord Mayor (currently Cllr Henry Michallat).
The diaries are published on the BCC Website:
Analysing the Data
The diary files are published PDF files, in different formats which makes it very difficult to analyse the actual diary data. I have cleaned the data, corrected obvious errors and put it into a report on BU Reports (look for the "Diaries" button). I have combined the data for both sets of diaries, but you can easily filter on a single role (Leader or Lord Mayor).
I have assigned each "appointment" to a specific category to make it easier for people to explore the data.
Categories
These are the Categories I have assigned to a lot of the appointments.
Most Leader appointments fall into the "Green" category, and most of the Lord Mayor appointments are "Citizenship Ceremonies", which are held every 2 weeks.

Merchant Venturers
These are the appointments that fall into the "Merchant Venturer" category.

I didn't know about the Sheep Grazing right bestowed on the "Commoners of Durdham Down".
The Commoners of Durdham Down’ refers to 13 groups or individuals who border the Downs, and who collectively have grazing rights for a total of 1885 sheep. These include the University of Bristol Botanic Gardens, Badminton School, Trinity College, the St Monica Trust and individual householders.
Leader Categories

"Green" Category
This is the category with most meetings.

"WECA" Category

Flag Raising
There has been a lot of coverage of Bristolians who have created a city wide "Flag Trail", but I wasn't aware of how much "Flag Raising" takes place at City Hall .

Lord Mayor's of Bristol
I have also produced a report about the historical Mayor's and Lord Mayor's of Bristol, and here are a few interesting facts.

These are the most common first names of the Mayors.
"Henry" comes in at number 6 on the chart, so Henry Michallat is in good company, joining the other 32 Henries on the list.

The occupations of Mayor's are often provided, and it seems that Soap related jobs were quite popular with Mayors.
