Planter Maintenance in Bristol

Planter Maintenance in Bristol

Helen has just published an article "The Pointlessness of Planters" where the poor state of the Planters in the East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood is documented.

I decided to look at the state of Planters across Bristol by looking at FixMyStreet Reports.

Planter Reports on FixMyStreet

The number of Planter reports for 2025 is already double the number of all reports made in 2024.

The ward with the most Planter reports is Easton, closely followed by Lawrence Hill.

Examples of Planter Reports

21/06/2025 - Pavement next to planters closing road used by cars

Until the planters are removed from the road, drivers will continue to drive around them. A police car drove onto the pavement a couple nights back to pass around the planters too. So much for these modal filters supposedly posing no obstruction to emergency vehicles.

12/06/2024 - Overgrown bush planter next to communal car park

Bcc bush planter outside 7 hughes gardens, adjacent to communal car park exit 400 filton ave blocking vision view to left, obstructing traffic view, speeding down hughes gardens. needs trimming down to prevent collision with passing traffic we've had close calls with cars, cyclists, e scooters, electric cars, which cant be seen when exiting our car park

11/06/2025 - Motorists illegally driving on the pavement

Reported since 2nd of May, that due to lack of bollards on pavements surrounding new planters, dozens of reckless drivers choosing their way over the pavement, which is mostly dangerous during school rush when even presence of children is not stopping them of driving over the pavement. Big danger for children everyday. Drivers even accelerating just after passing planters to not be seen on the pavement, what increases the risk. Just a few minutes after 3pm on Monday 12th a huge fully loaded tipper took a left turn from Victoria Avenue, crossed the pavement on right side of the planters. No caution, in drifting like manner. Still no improvement on securing this place, I'm afraid that someone is waiting for child to be run over. On Tuesday 13th another huge vehicle decided to cross the pavement, but unfortunately didn't managed to avoid collision with the planter. Ref 7516611 Ref 7516611 Constantly falsely reported as fixed by haters.

09/06/2025 - Cars parking next to planter blocking pedestrian walk way

There is nothing to stop cars parking next to planter blocking pedestrian walk way, outside number 122 Stackpool Road. This means since September we have to walk into the road to get around the corner from Hamilton road. This is not safe.

08/06/2025 - Planters vandalised

Planters have been vandalised and detached from road. People are also driving on the pavement to get round the road block. Very dangerous for cyclists who are treating this road as closed. Need to put an additional bollard on the kerb to stop this.

29/05/2025 - Wooden planters rotting

Two wooden planters at road narrowing on Guthrie Road nearest junction Pembroke Road. The Wooden planters are rotting away and will soon spill a large amount of soil onto the pavement. Could they be replaced if budgets allow? If not, can they be removed please?
