Councillor Remuneration 2025

Councillor Remuneration 2025

Bristol City Council only publish the "Councillor Remuneration" data nine months after the end of the financial year. They have just published the data for the year ending 31/03/2025.

Remuneration

The Remuneration figure include allowances and expenses for Broadband, Travel, Child Care and "Other".

Ex Councillors

The data shows that Councillors who left office in May 2024 were paid their allowances for the period Apr 2024 to Mar 2025, rather than for the one month they were still working as Councillors.

Here are some examples:

Broadband

38 of 70 Councillors claimed £15 for "Broadband" in the last financial year.

Why are some Councillors claiming for this?

Gifts

Tony Dyer has registered more gifts than the rest of the Councillors combined, with 55 of the 94 gifts registered.

Here are the gifts that Tony registered in 2025.

You would expect the Council Leader to get invited to more "jollies", but perhaps he should share the load with the Deputy Leader (Heather Mack) as she only has 3 gifts on the register for 2025.

Also, someone should remind Heather that she is supposed to fill in the "Date Of Registration" field on the form.

Meeting Attendance

The only measure we have got for the work Councillors do is the number of Committee Meetings they attend. I have calculated the "Remuneration per Meeting" figures for meetings attended from Apr 2024 to Apr 2025.

These are the "Top 10" Councillors for the measure of "Remuneration Per Meeting". Are these our best "Value for Money" Councillors when it comes to meeting attendances?

The table below shows the "Remuneration Per Meeting" for all Councillors.

Paul Goggin has had many health challenges and his meeting attendance should not be viewed in a negative way. You can hear a great interview with Paul Goggin here.
