Are you one of the 16,677 Bristolians who have signed the "Do not introduce Digital ID cards" petition?
Please note that the 16,677 number for the "Do not introduce Digital ID cards" petition was correct as at 28/09/2025 21:04 You can see more recent data on my UK Petitions Report.

The UK Government Petitions website provides some interesting data about Petitions created during the current parliament, including how many people have signed them from each Electoral Constituency in the UK (and from Countries outside of the UK).

"Do not introduce Digital ID cards" Petition

You have probably heard about this petition on the news and social media.

But how many people in Bristol have signed it, and what constituencies are they from?

At time of writing this article 2,338,353 people had signed the petition, of which 16,677 (0.71% of all signatures) came from people in Bristol Constituencies.

As well as showing the number of Bristol signatures, this table shows the percentage of the population in the constituency who signed the petition.

From this we could infer that people in Bristol South (3.93%) are more worried about the proposed introduction of "Digital ID" than people in Bristol Central (2.36%).

Or it could be that people in Bristol Central are less engaged with democracy in the UK than people in the rest of Bristol.

What about other petitions?

When we look at all of the 7,455 petitions from this parliament we can see that the total align with the data for the "No Digital ID" petition.

(please note that the % of Population Signed number will not be correct as the same people are likely to have signed multiple petitions, but the ratios are indicative of engagement)

The figure in the last column shows the percentage of the total signatures that are from Bristol constituencies.

These are likely to be petitions created by people in the Bristol area. Petitions need 100,000 signatures before they are debated in Parliament, so if you want to support these local people and agree with their request for action, then please consider signing their petitions.

For example the petition requesting an "Increase max sentence for injury caused due to dangerous driving to 10 years" has 575 signatures so far, of which 372 (64.7%) are from people in Bristol constituencies.

This petition is linked to the "Justice for Carlos" campaign:

James Doherty, then aged 18, hit four year-old Carlos at a bus stop when he lost control of his BMW in Bristol in November, leaving him with life-changing injuries including needing help to walk.
He was sentenced to two years and two months in a young offenders' institute in January after admitting causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but is now due to be released before the end of April.

You can sign the petition here (until 23rd October when it closes).

You can view all of the petitions on my UK Petitions report, where you can follow links to the petitions and sign them. My reports will be updated regularly.
